Nexceris engineers have tested many different lithium ion battery chemistries and form factors in an effort to quantify the early warning using our Li-Ion Tamer off-gas battery monitor. In the video, two identical lithium-ion pouch cells are overcharged. Early in the test the Li-Ion Tamer AWARE sensor detects battery off-gas in both tests and stops charging to the pouch cell in Test 1. The cell in Test 2 continues charging and after a few minutes, the pouch cell burst into flames. The early warning allowed time to take immediate action and prevent thermal runaway.
It is Nexceris’ goal to enable lithium-ion battery manufacturers, integrators, and end-users in the prevention of thermal runaway events.
